Summer

Grace Parker Jump Start to Spanish

Course Description

Beginner Session
(Open to students from any school, grades 6-12)

Reviewer Session
(Incoming or Returning Trinity Students only, grades 8-12)

The Spanish summer session will jump-start your Spanish skills before the school year! Divided into two sessions and open to students of all grades, this course is designed to provide the framework for learners at the beginner level, and provide review and reinforcement to students beyond level 1 skills, who found Spanish particularly challenging throughout the school year. Designed to be tutoring-intensive for students at the standard level, students will have the opportunity to improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through a variety of communication-based activities, such as individual and team-based games, music, culturally relevant readings, and more. The morning session will focus on level 1 skills and is for students from any school, including, but not limited to, incoming or returning Trinity students brand new to learning Spanish, (ideally students signed up for taking a Spanish 1 or 1A course in the fall). The afternoon session is for incoming or returning Trinity students who have successfully completed a level 1 Spanish course at minimum, but are looking to review and practice basic skills learned as they move into a standard level Spanish 2, 3, or 4 for the fall.

About the Instructor

"My name is Grace Parker and I have had the pleasure of teaching Spanish at Trinity for four years. I am from Lynchburg, VA where I attended Lynchburg College (now University of Lynchburg) and earned my bachelor of arts in Spanish and theatre performance. I worked at Blue Ridge Montessori school in Lynchburg teaching Spanish to students ages 5-8, and from there went on to earn my master of arts in Hispanic studies from The University of Georgia, where I had the opportunity to instruct university courses at the lower level. I consider myself a life-long learner, and a huge supporter of trying new things! Which is why I love helping and encouraging students new to their foreign language journey. I love travelling, especially to Spanish-speaking countries, doing yoga with my sister, singing, reading, and riding my bike."
